Hear from a NOAA expert about how marine debris affects our ocean environment and current efforts in addressing marine debris.
STEM Pre-Academy teachers will share applications and lessons-learned while adapting the kits for their own students.
In person attendees will explore each of the kits, experience a hands-on activity, and discuss strategies for using the kits in the classroom.

Mark Manuel, Pacific Islands Regional Coordinator, NOAA Marine Debris Program
Mark is Hawai‘i native and received his B.S. in Marine Science and M.S. in Tropical Conservation Biology and Environmental Science from UH Hilo. Mark was inspired to pursue this field from a marine science teacher when he was a high school sophomore. He will talk about his personal journey and share about current developments in the battle against marine debris as well as opportunities and resources for teachers and students.
Debb Clevenger, 7th grade Science teacher at Waipahu Intermediate School. Debb is one of our C-MORE hosts and has experience working with most of the kits and will share classroom best practices.
Cristin Priolo, 7th grade Science teacher at DreamHouse ‘Ewa Beach public charter school. Cristin will share her experience using the Marine Debris kit and offer best practices in the classroom.
Jennifer Seki-Wong, 7th and 9th grade Science teacher at University Laboratory school. Jenny will share how she adapted the kits and how the school’s experimental approach drives her own innovative teaching.
