🧠 Coming August 12th – Artificial Intelligence for Educators!

STEM Pre-Academy is delighted to invite K-16 educators to a Coffee Time Session: Artificial Intelligence for Educators. This meeting will present insights into AI, including ways AI can enhance teaching and learning. We will discuss existing risks as well as emerging implications in this uncharted territory of computer technology and education. Finally, participants will be guided in a hands-on exploration of several innovative AI tools.

Learn about the what, why, and how of artificial intelligence so you can make informed decisions about implementing these new tools in classroom teaching and learning.

Discuss the Potential: Let’s chat about ways AI is already transforming teaching, learning, and the job market. 

Experts in computer science and technology education will lead a discussion to examine the up- and downsides of AI tools in K-16 education, including some of the accompanying ethical challenges.

Hands-On Exploration: Take some of these new tools for a spin.

Experiment with AI-powered tools such as ChatGPT and other large language models. Learn how AI can support instructional design, create assignments that meet learning objectives, and even provide feedback to students.

Speakers

Dr. Michael-Brian Ogawa has been a faculty member in the UHM Department of Information and Computer Sciences for 15 years. His research focuses largely on information and computer science education, augmented cognition, and information ethics. Dr. Ogawa’s current research includes the application of AI such as Generative Pre-training Transformer (GPT) in educational contexts.

Branden Ogata is a PhD candidate in Communication and Information Sciences at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. His research focuses on computer science in education, with particular focus on peer tutoring and learning by teaching.
