An immersive experience in modern astronomy research
TeachAstro is an in-person 1-week workshop for grade 6-12 STEM teachers & education professionals in Hawaiʻi with 3 main components:

guided research activities using cutting-edge datasets and tools, taught by world-renowned astronomers at UH’s Institute for Astronomy
-
lessons about modern astronomy, through talks by professional researchers and nighttime observing opportunities
-
creation of in-class curricula using knowledge gained during the week
Why should STEM educators attend TeachAstro?
TeachAstro participants will:

develop knowledge about state-of-the-art research & methods in astronomy

build relationships with other STEM educators and professional researchers

create new curriculum resources that use the latest science & authentic data
What support is provided for participants?
TeachAstro will provide each participant:

a $2000 stipend
-
up to $300 for dependent-care support for the week
-
housing in Hilo for Hawaiʻi Island participants with long commutes
-
round-trip airfare & housing for neighbor-island participants
-
up to $300 for astronomy-related activities during the school year
-
an opportunity to earn 3 credits of professional development through UH Mānoa
