Space is big and difficult, both as a concept and a destination, but Lyle Tavernier, an educational technology specialist at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, is just the sort of person who can bring it all down to earth.
We cordially invite you to our NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory Workshop with Lyle Tavernier! Lyle will be joining us virtually, while we meet in person to incorporate space exploration into standards-aligned STEM instruction.
In this 90-minute session for 3rd to 8th grade educators, you’ll engage in the engineering design process and straight-forward coding with standards-aligned lessons related to space exploration.
- Design and test a lunar lander using simple materials and your knowledge of gravity, motion, and forces.
- Learn how to code micro:bits as accelerometers to determine the landing force of your lunar lander.
- Code micro:bits to send and receive radio messages across space.
- Find out more about NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and University of Hawai‘i educational resources - including how you can borrow a classroom set of micro:bits!a
