Toolkit Talk - Newton's Laws

Saturday, August 24, 2024
9:00am - 11:00am
Mānoa Innovation Center

Join us for an in-person opportunity to come together, exchange ideas, and share your experiences in teaching Newton's Laws!

There will be ample time for hands-on exploration with a few of the tools we offer in our Toolkit for Teachers as well as a chance to discuss how these tools can be used in the classroom and some advice and reflection from teachers who have already used them.

Special Guest Speakers - Marielle Dilks and Richard Coffey, 8th grade science teachers, Aliamanu Middle School

Applicable NGSS Standards

  • MS-PS2-1 - Apply Newton’s Third Law to design a solution to a problem involving the motion of two colliding objects.

  • MS-PS2-2 -  Plan an investigation to provide evidence that the change in an object’s motion depends on the sum of the forces on the object and the mass of the object.

  • MS-ETS1-1 - Define the criteria and constraints of a design problem

  • MS-ETS1-2 - Evaluate competing design solutions

  • MS-ETS1-3 - Analyze data from tests to determine similarities and differences

  • MS-ETS1-4 - Develop a model to generate data
