Solar Oven EDP Activity

EDP Activity to learn about Solar Ovens where students design, create, and improve a solar oven and do a presentation about their solar oven.

Solar Oven Student Engineering Notebook (GR2 Asato – Kahaluʻu ES)
An engaging and grade-level appropriate engineering notebook that takes younger engineers through the Engineering Design Process with prompts, graphics, and space to write/type their progress of addressing the problem of not having electrical power and being able to cook using a solar oven.

Y1 GR2 Solar Oven EDP Project Plan (2018-19, K.Asato – Kahaluʻu ES)
This grade 2 STEM EDP Unit Plan addresses the problem of not having electricity and being able to cook food using a solar oven. The plan follows the Understanding by Design process with current NGSS and Common Core standards connections, performance based expectations and assessment evidence, and an overview showing how the five steps of the EDP are used to solve this design challenge.
