PocketLab Voyager Classroom Set
The PocketLab Voyager Classroom Set is a force and motion sensor that measures velocity (speedometer), position (odometer), G-force (accelerometer), acceleration (accelerometer), rotation (gyroscope), and direction (magnetometer). The sensors connect via Bluetooth and are compatible with iOS, Android, Chrome OS, Windows, and macOS devices.
Teachers have used this kit to engage students in a hands-on activity to learn about Newton's laws.
The kit contains: 10 PocketLab Voyager Sensors, ten silicone cases, charging cables, a charger, and a plastic case to store everything.
Pollinator Model – Bucket Orchid
The Bucket Orchid Pollinator Model was developed by STEM Pre-Academy as an engineering design challenge tool for teachers, and over time, it has been proven engaging and fun for the students.
Teachers have used this to teach students the importance of these pollinators and plant morphology while integrating the engineering design process to develop a hand pollinator.
With this model, students can test their different prototypes of pollinators in the classroom. Each kit includes one pollinator model and ten "pom-poms" to simulate pollen.
Pollinator Model – Vanilla Orchid
The Vanilla Orchid Pollinator Model was developed by STEM Pre-Academy as an engineering design challenge tool for teachers, and over time, it has been proven engaging and fun for the students.
Teachers have used this interactive and hands-on approach to teach students about the importance of these pollinators and plant morphology while integrating the engineering design process to develop a solution to the challenge.
With this model, students can test their different prototypes of pollinators in the classroom. Each kit includes one pollinator model, a sample engineering notebook, and ten "pom-poms" to simulate pollen.
Powershot A495 Camera
Use this 10 MP digital camera with 3.3x optical zoom to capture student work to include in their reports and presentations. SD card included.
Quantum PAR (Photosynthetically Active Radiation) Meter
Measure the light intensity in the Photosynthetically Active Radiation light spectrum from 400 to 700 nanometers. This is the spectrum most plants use to photosynthesize (excluding UV light). Use this sensor to design & plan or troubleshoot your indoor and outdoor plant / aquatic systems. You can even combine this with the CO2 sensor for a photosynthesis experiment.
Rain Simulator
The Rain Simulator was created for an EDP challenge activity that required controlled rainfall to be simulated within a contained space.
The system uses a pump box to pressurize water and produce rain inside the rain chamber.
Teachers have found it useful for Engineering design challenges and Math applications.
Example of applications using the rain simulator are:
- Designing a house to withstand a tropical storm and a rooftop using the Pythagorean theorem.
Seed Saving Classroom Kit
Developed by Tyler Levine and STEM Pre-Academy the Seed Saving Classroom kit includes the materials to collect, clean, dry, and store your seeds. While this kit and the associated activities are geared towards tomatoes, there is much flexibility in what you can do!
The Seed Saving Classroom Kit can help you preserve the viability and longevity of your seeds by ensuring minimal moisture content within the seed so that they don’t prematurely germinate and/or rot and grow mold when stored.
And don't miss the Seed Saving Activity that was developed to go along with this kit.
Silhouette Cutter SD
The Silhouette Cutter is an additional (optional) accessory that cuts paper, vinyl, and other thin material. It has its own free software, Silhouette Studio, which can be used to design anything imaginable. It also works with Fablab ModelMaker 3D software to cut paper shape nets that can be manually folded into 3D models.
Snap Circuits Green Alternative Energy Kit
The Snap Circuit Green Alternative Energy Kit demonstrates the generation process of renewable energy. Students can assemble and experiment with simple, interchangeable components that snap into place on a grid platform.
Snap Circuits Jr Kit
Snap Circuits Jr is ideal kit for students to understanding the fundamentals of electricity. The kit allows students to explore circuits with pieces that easily “snap” into place on a grid platform. Teachers can design challenges that allow students to design solutions using engineering design process. We also have supplemental snap circuit kits that focus on alternative energy, as well as a motion detector that can be used to expand the kit’s applications.
Snap Circuits Motion Detector Kit
Snap Circuits Motion Detector Kit is ideal for students to learn motion detecting in 6 different circuit projects (included):
- Siren Motion Detector
- Alarm Motion Detector
- Police Car
- Fire Engine
- Machine Gun
- European Siren
Solar Panel
Explore the basics of solar power with the Junior Solar Sprint Solar Panel. Students investigate the energy produced by solar panels in response to light level (or angle of the sun). This tool is designed to be used with our multimeter and comes with curriculum that can be used as is, or modified for your class. The lesson can be used as a stand alone investigation or to prepare students for Solar Sprint or as part of a larger climate change unit.
Sphero Mini Classroom Set
Sphero Mini is a robot students can program to complete tasks, travel to exotic locations, and even play games. Students can control the Sphero Minis with a smartphone/tablet app using block coding, text coding, or a joystick to enable various robotic possibilities.
Teachers use Spheros to teach coding, Engineering design process, and other skills through hands-on activities.
Each kit includes a classroom set of 16 bots packed in a box and an additional box full of accessories. Each loan requests include iPads pre-loaded with the Sphero EDU app.
Sphero SPRK+ Power pack
This is our little round friend, Sphero. Sphero is a robot that students can program to complete tasks, travel around to exotic locations, and even play games. Sphero is controlled from a smartphone / tablet app that unleashes a whole bunch of robotic possibilities. Students can control Sphero using block or text coding, or just using a joystick. iPads with the pre-loaded Sphero app included with loan request. Each kit includes a classroom set of 12 bots packed into a sturdy rolling charging case.
Strawberry DNA Extraction Kit
DNA is a very abstract concept that can be difficult to grasp. With this DNA kit, extract "chunks" of DNA from strawberries and papaya that students can actually see. Students will learn about cell walls and cell membranes breaking down these walls and membranes are essential to the extraction process. Each kit contains 16 sets of materials for students to work in groups of 2 or more.
